Stepmania 3.95 cvs download: The ultimate guide to install and play the classic version

With Stepmania 5, gaming online is supported but not the local network. You can connect to the servers of Stepmania Online, but you cannot create a server on our computer. However, there is a trick to do it anyway! Download this zip and unzip so that you have a folder Stepmania/SMOnline. Run SMOnline.exe and you have a server running. Just connect to yourself with the IP 127.0.0.1 as I explain further. A bit more info in this forum thread. Another (vintage) possibility, you can download this modified version of Stepmania 3.9, Stepmania 3.95 CVS. This version includes a network option which works as well on local network as on the web.

Local area network: Let us develop how to set up a local area network session. As many players as your room allows will be able to dance the same title simultaneously and compare their scores. First with Stepmania 5 do not forget to run SMOnline in the background, for the computer you have choosen to be the server. Then, go to Options/Network Options. Non-server computers join the game by typing the server computer's IP in Connect. Of course, you need to have properly set up your local network beforehand in your Operating System. Then the server computer connects to itself with the IP 127.0.0.1. You should see connection successful at the top left corner of the screen, and Network OK when you come back to the main screen. With 3.95CVS there is an alternative way to do this set up, and it is super quick (useful if you are doing DDR public demos). Launch Stepmania with a shortcut and this command line: stepmania.exe --runserver=gxrald --netip=127.0.0.1 will start a server named gxrald. On the other computers, launch stepmania.exe --joinserver=gxrald --netip=[IP of the host] Add the command AFTER the commas if you have some. It may also work with Stepmania 5, at least for the joining computers, I did not have the chance to test.

The Stepmania 3.9 release of 2005 remained the reference version many years. There used to be numerous versions struggling to become an accepted Stepmania 4, but people sticked to 3.9. Fortunately, the sm-ssc fork ended up convincing everyone and became officially Stepmania 5, the best version to date. Stepmania 5 is regularly updated, you download the latest version here. With an earliest version (beta 2), I have encountered a problem to run the program: I was told some dll is missing. I have installed this Microsoft pack to fix the problem.

Others derivates from 3.9 can still be useful sometimes. There is especially a version enabling 4 players simultaneously with split screen. The game remains 100% readable thanks to the large TVs we have today and it is a blast with an overhead projector. I hope we will find this soon in Stepmania 5! Until then, download it there.

There is also the famous version 3.95 CVS and its integrated local network play. This one was much useful to me when I organized DDR events up to 8 players. You can do the same with Stepmania 5, but there is a little trick. I explain this in the section network play.

Appearance options: Announcer : Stepmania comes with no announcer included. If you want one, you have to download it for instance on this website. Nice guy as I am, I propose you the announcer from Dance With Intensity, I find him great. Gift! In any case, put the announcer pack in the folder Stepmania/announcer. Then, activate it in this option screen. Theme lets you change deeply the looks of Stepmania with downloadable skins. Right now few are available for Stepmania 5, best source is here. More on that later. Noteskin is about the look of the arrows. I find the default one very good, and the others less easily playable. Only my opinion! The important thing about the noteskin is to differenciate normal arrows and half timed or quarter timed arrows. It really helps for the standard and heavy levels of play. In the picture below, you can see a blue half timed arrow between two normal red ones. Percentage Scoring: This option is much more important than it seems and is not an appearance option after all. It deeply affects how your score is computed, thus how you will be able to monitor your progress. I invite you to put this option to On, I will explain more precisely the matter of scoring later. After that you have options about the background of the dance screen. You can activate 3D dancing characters, but I think they will only please kids because they are NOT AT ALL in the good rythm. I just keep everything to default.

This project is currently frozen; it will be thawed once more people decidethat StepManiais more than just DDR.That may never end up happening... especially now that StepMania is Touhou. The few things known about Selling Out Made Simple 2 are the premise,a few leaked screenshots, and an early preview video. For those not familiar with the original Selling Out Made Simple, it was oncedescribed as "the kind of theme I would never make." The older readme (when thetheme was being made by "Sera Anonimo") expands it:It's meant to be IIDX-styled without having a likeness to any style inparticular, kind of like Trance Machina, I suppose.(Of course, the SOMS series has nothing to do with Trance Machina.)Not everything will be styled as an IIDX-alike, however. (ScreenEvaluation comes to mind.)SOMS2 is currently only scheduled to be released for StepMania 5, as olderversions do not have the required Lua bindings in order to make this themerun proprely. It should go without saying that this theme will never beported to StepMania 3.9, 3.95, OpenITG, StepMania 4 CVS versions, theStepMania 4 betas, or sm-ssc, but I need to do it anyways.

SOMS2 was AJ's primary focus theme-wise, before deciding to finish up variousloose ends. (Work on the theme still continues today.) Serious work started inJune 2010, though the theme was born a year before. The theme is currently asketch version, meaning that the look of the theme will likely radicallychange for a final version. This theme is for widescreen aspect ratios (16:10 and 16:9 in particular) only. Here's why. You will be notifiedof an incompatible aspect ratio on startup. The options menu is said to "make you flip." See a screenshot below to seewhat I mean.the selling out made simple 2 mantra:This is the mantra because people don't seem to give me any credit (as a themer)for my themes. moonlight hasn't been past 1000 downloads and people say it'sone of my best themes. If I'm making a theme that nobody will end up using, what is the point of making it in the first place? I'm not trying to fight anyone, but they're trying to fight me. I'm sick of playing 5th fiddle in thisStepMania theming community when I'm the one who is driving the themingcommunity to new worlds (along with my SSC bretheren).Don't doubt me on this, either. I'm throwing everything I know into this theme, and I'm learning & creating new things to abuse. :) 2ff7e9595c
